Felt-Sensing: A Fresh Way of Being-With Life [2021-Winter]

Experience is a myriad richness.  We think more than we can say. We feel more than we can think. We live more than we can feel. And there is much more.  [Eugene Gendlin]

  • Do you yearn to be more deeply and reliably in-touch with your inner knowing?
  • Are you longing to show up more authentically in your daily life?
  • Are you curious about integrating "embodied knowing" with your "head-knowing"?
  • Are you intrigued with the concept of Felt-Sensing, yet unsure of what it actually means?
  • Do you want to include Felt-Sensing and embodied-knowing within your professional practice?
  • Would you like to create an ongoing Focusing practice that feels "just right" for you?

Seven, 2-hour LIVE and interactive Zoom sessions

Dates/Time TBD (Eastern)

Led by Mary Elaine Kiener, RN, PhD

About the Course

My goal for you is for you to better understand and nurture Felt-Sensing as a trusted and treasured lifelong resource for you.

Felt-Sensing--as initially described by Eugene Gendlin—is an inherent capacity within each human being.  It invites fresh, embodied understanding and clarity into a current situation, while also accessing that deeper level inside where true change occurs.

Given the unique nature of human beings, each individual is likely to access and/or express their Felt-Sensing capacity in their own way—meaning there is no single “right” way.

We’ll begin with an experiential, “instancing” approach within a safe, nurturing, content-and-interaction-rich learning environment.  This will encourage you to start from the place of YOUR own experiencing—with that which you already instinctively “know”.  From that place, we’ll explore (in bits and pieces) others’ teachings and experiencing in a way that empowers you to bring forth, claim and nurture YOUR own best way.

My vision for us as a learning cohort is to:

  • More compassionately and effectively understand ourselves and others,
  • Access and empower our creative, life-forwarding energy,
  • Develop more meaningful, life-affirming and harmonious relationships with family, friends, colleagues, our community and the world.

Course Dates:

  • Next course:  TBD (Eastern)

[Here's a world-time-clock to see the time in your area.]

What the Course Includes:

  • 7 live and highly participative Zoom calls, 2 hours each.  [All calls will be recorded, with recordings (video + audio with linked AI-based written transcript) available for post-session review.]
  • Online learning modules you can work through at your own pace.  Within each module, you will receive “bite-size” mini-lessons of self-paced learning activities presented in print, audio and/or video format, accompanied by reflective learning activities and supplemental resources (curated from publicly available sources).
  • A collaborative online learning community of peers dedicated to supporting each other’s unfolding process.
  • New  content released each week.
  • Ongoing support via the online learning platform, email and/or voice/text.

As Felt-Sensing becomes more a part of my life, I see its power showing up in unexpected ways.  Recently, I had a difficult (and all-too-familiar) bout with self judgment and regret.  This time, I was able to simply be with the uncomfortable feelings, rather than catastrophizing and attempting to fix them.  I've found an oasis of calm from which I am able to just be with my feelings as they are, without giving them license to overwhelm my life.   Sue Venman

Time Commitment

  • This course offers much more than content to be consumed.  It’s a paradigm-shifting experience that will change the way you “show up” in your life.
  • In addition to the 2-hour live Zoom call, you should plan for an additional 1-2 hours of interaction with and integration of program content each week.

Choose Your Own Tuition:

I’m offering a “pay what you can” tuition model for this course.  This means you can decide for yourself a tuition amount that feels right, clear and fair for you at this time, given:

  • Your financial means
  • Your anticipation of value
  • Your commitment to fully engaging in this course.

Normally, based on the overall cost to create and produce this 7-week course, I would set a tuition amount at $320.

Realistically, I know that some of you—for whatever your reasons—are not in a position to pay full price. On the other hand, I want everyone to have access to this learning, regardless of ability to pay.

If your financial means are a barrier for your full participation, then choose an amount that works for you.  If you have the means to “pay it forward”, you’re invited to do so.

I trust your judgment about what represents a commitment on your part and respects your financial situation.  Please know that regardless of the amount you select, you will have my full attention and the same privileges and access to content as everyone else.

If you'd like some help in choosing a tuition amount, I've prepared a brief Felt-Sensing exercise to do just that. I'll tell you about it in the video that's just below. Also, here are links to the guided exercise itself--in both video and pdf formats.

Note:  If you want to take this course but your circumstances make it challenging for you to pay even a minimum course fee, please contact Mary Elaine at me@askmehouse.com. I'd love to hear from you and find a way that works for you to be able to take it.

Life is flowing well and I'm handling its bumps with greater ease...I'm quite pleased at the clarity that keeps coming.  L.B.

What You Can Expect from Me

  • I will do my best to help you find how Felt-Sensing improves the quality of your life.
  • Your experience will count for more than anything I say or suggest.
  • I will make Felt-Sensing as accessible as I possibly can.
  • I will keep whatever happens in this group deeply confidential.
  • I will provide some material along the way that I think will help. I might suggest some things that I do not provide.
  • I will do my best to keep the group moving forward at a rate that fits everyone.
  • I will look for things to laugh about.

What I Will Ask for From You

  • Bring as much of your best self as you can. There is an easy test to tell if you are doing so. Ask yourself, “Am I open? Am I curious? Do I feel available to compassion?” If the answer is no to any, pay attention to what is in the way. This is all anyone can ask.
  • Take your experience as more important than what I, or anyone else, say.
  • If you do not understand something that is happening or are unhappy with it, please say so.
  • Hold what happens in the group with confidentiality.
  • Ask for what you need, when you need it.
  • Honor your commitment to “show up” and “be accountable”.
  • Communicate when you’re unable to be present or are falling behind.
  • Enjoy yourself.

What if the time schedule of the Zoom calls doesn’t work for me?  One of the benefits of this course is the opportunity to learn with and from others.  This means making a commitment to showing up—not just for yourself, but for the rest of the group.  I, therefore, request that you commit to attending at least five of the seven live Zoom calls. If this commitment presents a hardship for you, please contact me (me@askmehouse.com) to explore other options that might be available.

Do I need any previous experience or training to participate?  There are no prerequisites for this course other than a curiosity and willingness to explore an embodied way of knowing.

How does this course differ from other Focusing trainings?   Many existing courses approach Focusing as a new process or technique that needs to be “taught”—as something separate from your own experiencing.  In contrast, this course starts from the place of YOUR own experiencing—with what you already instinctively “know”.  From that place, we’ll explore (in bits and pieces) others’ teachings and experiencing in a way that empowers you to bring forth, claim and nurture YOUR own best way.

What if I’ve already taken other Focusing courses from other teachers?  This course invites all participants to begin with their own current understanding of Felt-Sensing and Experiencing.  Some course content may be already familiar to you, while other materials may offer different perspectives and opportunities for deeper understanding.
